We are currently seeking to add a Dredge Operator to join our team. The Dredge Operator will work at various project sites across Western Canada.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety
- Participates in safety meetings, hazard assessments, hazard identification, near miss and incident reporting, procedures and safety analysis, and other attachments, tower sheets, etc.
- Operates, monitors and controls process levels, temperatures, pressures and flows for applicable processes and systems in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensures that required documentation is legible, accurate and completed on a timely basis daily.
- Acquires and maintains all certifications as required (H2S Awareness, Mobile Equipment, Etc.).
- Consistently upholds KBL's values and safety absolutes when representing the company.
- This position requires the employee to be clean shaven daily for respirator use as needed.
- Follows preventative maintenance inspection programs and completes related tasks.
Operations
- Operates and maintains diesel and electric dredge with remote and/or manual controls.
- Ensures that all equipment and systems are being operated to KBL's standards.
- Comprehensive knowledge of executing dredging methods in an efficient manner without compromising health, safety, environment and property.
- Performs troubleshooting and repair activities as needed.
- Performs mechanical and/or equipment maintenance as required and/or assigned.
- Maintains safe and clean equipment and general work area.
- Ability to perform physical tasks safely such as shoveling, moving equipment, housekeeping requirements.
- Assist/lead team with rigging up and tearing out process (i.e. traverse and turfer cables, slurry piping, process hoses, set up of dewatering process, run power cables, servicing of engines, mobilize-demobilize and spotting of equipment, working with cranes and winch trucks, etc.)
Various Other Tasks & Expectations
- General laboring at times, including but not limited to, digging, sweeping, monitoring, sampling and spotting for trucks.
- Responsible for performing a combination of routine and complex equipment operation, preventative maintenance and manual labor, which may include some instruction to others.
- Must be willing to work day & night shifts, up to 12 hours in duration, along with the possibility of assigned on-call shifts and/or additional overtime when deemed necessary.
- Drive a crew truck to and from site as required.
- Occasionally assist with mentoring new employees;
- Conduct daily pre-& post-operational checks on equipment & document in equipment logs.
- Clean, lubricate and fuel all equipment and general site housekeeping.
- Ensure safety fences / barriers / markings are all in place.
- Notify supervisor and /or repair shop of any required work to be done which is identified during course of duty.
- Ability to read and understand drawings (i.e. pond) and P&IDs.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all incidents occurring on site to the Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of Dredging & Dewatering Experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required with previous experience.
- Minimum valid Class 5 Driver's license.
- Ability to operator the excavator for project support, including pallets, drilling tubulars, and waste loading is an asset.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office and other computer systems.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting a minimum of 55lbs, working in confined spaces, standing for an extended period of time, frequent use of ladders and working at heights.
- Proficient with two-way radio communications.
- Mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and other troubleshooting knowledge is an asset.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Effective organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
- Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize activities.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions including extreme heat or cold depending on location.
